Went to see Valentino: The Last Emperor, when the film festival was on, and it was surprisingly good, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. It was touching with unexpected moments of comedy. The film is less about his fashion, and more about the eccentric nature of Valentino and his relationship with Giancarlo Giammetti, his life partner. The film kinda sprung all over the place at times, and also followed the power struggle between Valentino as the figurehead of the brand, and the business’s that had shares and control in the company. It’s worth a watch, if only for the pug dogs.
I have a few books about vintage advertising but they don’t contain anything as great as these. Honestly, the pig, his face, gets me every time. The aesthetic of the smoking one is actually quite cool, and a beautiful photo/illustration, once you look past the fact that it advises to woo a woman by blowing smoke up her nostrils.
I think I am destined to live in an old cold house along with a vintage alas potentially dangerous stove, but I will be serving tea and you will be sitting in outdoor furniture whilst indoors.

I have a soft spot for the Gaag’s (our affectionate name for Lady Gaga), I mean for christ sakes the woman wore a bra that shot firecrackers. I find these pretty funny, but I’ve also been painting my nails in my room all night so it could be the fumes (yes, it is a Friday night). Get your laugh on here www.blog.theblakewright.com
